A man has died following a car crash on a Scottish island.  

Police said the 39-year-old was injured in the crash on the island of Skye on Monday, and was taken to Broadford hospital where he passed away.  

Two passengers, a 19-year-old female and a 23-year-old man, were also taken to the medical facility for treatment and later discharged. 

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to the crash, which happened on the A87 near the village of Breakish on Monday just before 10am.

The road was closed for around eight hours to allow enquiries to be carried out. 

Sergeant Christopher Donaldson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this difficult time. 

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the crash to contact us. 

“I would also ask anyone who saw the car prior to the crash or who has dash cam footage which may assist to get in touch.”
