Located on the banks of the River Clyde in Bishopton, Mar Hall was bought out of administration by Dubai-based Dutco Group in December 2023 with support from asset management firm Align Partners. The five-star resort has since been undergoing a £15 million programme of upgrades and renovations.

Chris McQueen was appointed head of golf at Mar Hall in April, having previously worked at Gleddoch Resort & Spa and Trump Turnberry. He has been in charge of extensive improvement works at the course with support from head greenkeeper Andrew Eckford, previously of Cameron House and Loch Lomond, who also joined Mar Hall earlier this year.

Mr McQueen says the resort is set to be transformed ahead of next year's annual charity golf day on July 25 in aid of Ardgowan Hospice, with actor Martin Compston and former footballer Frank McAvennie expected to attend.

What's on offer for golfers at Mar Hall?

The course is nestled within a 240-acre ancient woodland estate situated on the banks of the River Clyde, only 10 minutes from Glasgow Airport. It is part of the exceptional five-star Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort which opened in 2004, with the course coming into play in 2010.

The championship course boasts incredible views across the water and the Old Kilpatrick Hills. It is tricky to play which makes it a popular destination for both our members and guests.

We are currently on an exciting journey of transformation with a multi-million-pound renovation underway which includes significant improvements to the golf facilities. All bunkers have been repaired with total sand replacement, while the greens have undergone an aeration process, and will be continuously top-dressed throughout the year along with the fairways.

Other upgrades include a new automated irrigation system and a new fertilisation and disease control process to protect the grounds, while 12 new golf buggies have been purchased. The team will continue to grow with recruitment of experienced professionals ensuring a five-star guest experience in line with corporate and golf society events.

What are the figures on Mar Hall Golf Course?

Intentionally designed as two loops of nine, the par-70 course consists of generously proportioned fairways, large gently contoured USGA specification greens, and strategically placed bunkers.

It measures 6,507 yards from the championship tees. Designed by the renowned architect and professional golfer Dave Thomas, Mar Hall has a slope rating of 132.

Who plays at Mar Hall?

The club's membership is nearing its capacity of 300. Approximately 15,000 rounds are played on Mar Hall each year by golfers from all over the world.

What’s new this year?

Just about everything. Mar Hall is undergoing an exciting transformation, with all aspects of the resort being revitalised. This includes a complete renovation of our 70-bedroom hotel, extensive updates to the spa and leisure facilities, the addition of 30 new luxury lodges, and enhancements to our 18-hole championship golf course.

What events are you most looking forward to in the upcoming season?

With much of the renovation set to be completed by spring 2025, we are looking forward to unveiling our new look and facilities to guests.

For the second year running, we will be hosting our charity golf day in July 2025 in aid of Ardgowan Hospice. With many famous faces due to attend, we are sure the 2025 Charity Golf Day will be a day not to be missed.

What makes Mar Hall special?

The backdrop of Clyde Estuary and Old Kilpatrick Hills is truly beautiful.  We are set within an idyllic woodland estate which makes the outside world feel a million miles away. Mar Hall is an extraordinary escape, secluded in natural landscape and really does offer all the best that Scotland has to offer.
