Police Scotland have warned they will be on hand to deal with any fireworks-related crime over the coming days after two arrests were made in Edinburgh.

Guy Fawkes, or Bonfire Night, takes place today and there are concerns there could be further trouble around the country similar to what was seen in Edinburgh last week.

Disorder among youths in Edinburgh took place on Halloween with a 14-year-old boy arrested on the night in the connection with firework offences.

A 17-year-old male was also arrested on Sunday, November 3 following an attack on a police vehicle in the Niddrie area of the city, where an officer was injured and he has been remanded in custody.

Now the police have set up a control room in Edinburgh as part of ‘Operation Moonbeam’ as they look to crackdown on fireworks-related crime.

It says specialist resources will be on hand to support local policing teams across the country as they look to stop any further issues.

A statement said: “Our officers are out in communities to keep the public safe. Please help us stop fireworks offences and attacks on emergency service workers.

“If you have any information about planned offences, contact us on 101 or make an anonymous report to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
