One of Glasgow’s best-loved restaurants has launched a popular dish for the dine-at-home market.
Mr Singh’s has forged a partnership with PK Foods Glasgow to manufacture its chicken bhoona dish, which will be sold in Costco cash and carry in the north of the city. It is expected that nearly 1,000 packs of the dish, based on the family’s 30-year-old recipe, will be sold over the opening weekend.
Papa Singh, who opened the restaurant in Elderslie Street 30 years ago, said: “We have built our reputation on providing fantastic Indian cuisine and warm and friendly Scottish hospitality. The new a la carte home dining will deliver a great value offering for both existing and new customers.”
Four generations of the Singh family have worked in the restaurant, which has become renowned for attracting celebrities such as players from Rangers and Celtic since it opened. A launch event for the take-home bhoona took place at Costo today, attended by former Aberdeen, Motherwell, Celtic and Rangers players Kris Boyd, James McFadden, Frank McAvennie, Craig Moore, and Billy Dodds, ahead of the League Cup semi-finals at Hampden this weekend.

Former Rangers striker Boyd, who along with McFadden, McAvennie and Dodds is a regular at the restaurant, said: “We have all had many great nights there celebrating wins and the family always make us feel welcome. Their curries and hospitality are legendary so it’s nice to help Papa Singh reach a new audience.”
The chicken bhoonas are expected to be priced at £5.99 for 700g pack designed to serve two people.
Jason Stevenson, sales director of PK Foods Glasgow, said: “We have been supplying pakora to Costco for 10 years this month and are delighted to be in partnership with Mr Singh’s to market a great value dish of such high quality.
“The restaurant is a Glasgow landmark, and the family are well loved throughout the community so this was an opportunity we couldn’t wait to work on. Hopefully it will lead to more collaborations as we expand the range.”
Satty Singh said: “My dad has been an inspiration to us all. He is the creative force behind our restaurant and his standards of cuisine and service have helped make it a household name. We were all so excited by his latest idea and his enthusiasm to continue driving the business forward is an inspiration to us all.”
Papa Singh added: “If this is successful we are planning to retail our Tarka Dhal, South Indian chilli chicken and vegetable bhoona. All the family have been involved and Mark Singh will be working with executive chef Manish Joshi and PK Foods every day to ensure our customers get the authentic taste and recipe passed down through the generations.”
