A historic Scottish city pub is to reopen under new management.

The traditional bar changed hands after the previous tenants stepped down.

Caledonian Heritable Limited, the owner of Clark’s Bar in Dundas Street in Edinburgh, said at that stage in August it aimed to “ensure that any forced closure is kept to a minimum”.

The owner said previous social media posts indicating the permanent closure of the pub which dates from 1899 were inaccurate.

A spokesperson for CHL said earlier: “This is a truly iconic site and has been a mainstay of the Edinburgh pub and real ale landscape for over 125 years, it is our ambition to see it remain as a hospitality destination for the New Town community and beyond.”

CHL was asked for further comment.

'Milestone' hailed in bid to transform former Marks & Spencer store

Plans to transform the former Marks & Spencer store on Sauchiehall Street into student accommodation have moved a “step closer”, its developer has said.

Fusion Group has completed the acquisition of the landmark building from the high-street giant in a deal worth £150 million.

The deal paves the way for the building to be transformed into a major mixed-use development, including 619 student beds and 9,500 square feet of new commercial space at street level via a new shopping arcade. This will restore a historic pedestrian route from Sauchiehall Street to Renfrew Street, Fusion said.
