Independent parcel carrier Yodel has announced it is hiring for nearly 300 seasonal roles in Scotland ahead of the festive peak.

The openings form part of Yodel’s UK-wide recruitment drive, with the carrier creating 3,000 additional roles nationwide.

The roles include 143 positions in Livingston, 86 in Perth and 53 in Kilmarnock to help prepare for the busy Black Friday and Christmas shopping peak times.

Yodel said it expects to handle up to 53% more parcels over the next three months as consumers ramp up spending ahead of the festive season.

The parcel carrier has seen strong growth of its consumer-to-consumer deliveries, with volumes up 200% in the last two years.

This latest recruitment drive follows Yodel’s new partnership with Onsi Pay, which the parcel carrier said "will give greater financial flexibility to new couriers joining the business".

The collaboration will enable couriers to access a portion of their earnings the next day, without waiting for the end of their pay cycle, Yodel added.

Mike Hancox, CEO of Yodel, said: “As we head into the busiest time of year for retailers, we’re expanding our workforce to meet the boom in demand for parcel deliveries as the ecommerce market continues to go from strength to strength.

"Livingston is an incredibly important site within Yodel’s national operation, and we look forward to welcoming more colleagues on-board to strengthen our peak period.”

“We’re committed to supporting our network of couriers and providing a competitive range of benefits, and our partnership with Onsi Pay will enable us to continue leading the industry on this front. We’ve already seen high registration rates amongst new colleagues and are exploring a wider roll out of the platform to existing colleagues in the near future.”

Anthony Beilin, CEO and co-founder at Onsi, said: “Yodel is one of the UK’s biggest parcel carriers and we look forward to building on its competitive range of benefit packages with this offering. Onsi Pay will support thousands of couriers across the UK with more options and control of their finances.”
