The new owner of Aberdeen's only five-star hotel is asking guests to advise on forthcoming upgrades to the popular wedding and conference venue.
Sir Jim Milne's Balmoral Group took charge of the Marcliffe Hotel in June of this year from the Spence family with promises to continue their legacy at what Sir Jim describes as an "Aberdeen institution". In September Balmoral subsequently announced the appointment of hospitality sector veteran Peter Walker as Marcliffe's general manager to replace Ross Spence.
Balmoral has now revealed plans for a multi-million pound investment at the venue that will be guided by an anonymous public survey asking guests to share their thoughts about the hotel. The upgrades will aim to enhance the guest experience while retaining the distinctive elements of the Marcliffe and its place of "special significance" in the north-east of Scotland.

Since its founding day, the Marcliffe has been the backdrop for countless cherished memories, and we endeavour for this to long continue with the assurance of a warm welcome, excellent service and a top-quality experience.
“Balmoral Group is committed to investing in both the team and facilities at the Marcliffe, but we must first listen to the people who treasure this place as much as we do, and that’s the people of the north-east.”
Established in 1980 by Sir Jim, Balmoral Group is a conglomerate with interests in engineering solutions for the offshore sector, water storage, and property development. The acquisition of Marcliffe was the group's first move into the hospitality sector.
The hotel was opened in 1993 by Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev, who was in the city to receive the Freedom of Aberdeen. The Marcliffe was a long-time favourite of former first minister Alex Salmond and has been the backdrop for a number of high profile events.

Mr Walker, who served as assistant general manager at the hotel between 2005 and 2009, said: “I know how much The Marcliffe means to those in the community, and we want everyone to be a part of this change.
"I strongly encourage everyone to share their aspirations and hopes for the future with us. We want to ensure the investment reflects what matters most to those who have supported The Marcliffe over the years, and those who we hope will support it in the future.”
Those taking part in the #MyMarcliffe survey will have the chance to enter a prize draw for a dinner, bed and breakfast stay at the hotel.
