House hunters looking for a property in Glasgow’s West End now have the chance to explore The Old Schoolhouse, described by developer Kelvin Properties as “a landmark transformation of a Victorian school”, as its show home opens to the public.

Kelvin Properties said: “The sensitive refurbishment of Napiershall Street School, which first opened in 1900 and closed in the 1980s, has restored many key period features, including its central atrium and grand staircase.

“The 49-apartment development includes two collections: The Primary Collection – featuring 24 meticulously renovated apartments within the original school building – and The Principal Collection, a new build consisting of 25 apartments that seamlessly integrate with the surrounding neighbourhood.”

The developer noted the apartments are designed in “three distinct themes” – Berlin, Vienna and Copenhagen – with “an enhanced specification for the penthouse collection”.

It said: “Each design is carefully selected to offer a variety of styles and finishes, ensuring every apartment reflects a commitment to modern luxury living, while preserving the character of the building.”

Kelvin Properties noted that the show home has been created by award-winning designer Emily Fotheringham, and “showcases the penthouse specification allowing prospective buyers to experience the luxury finishes”.

It said: “With nine properties already sold through property agent Savills’ early access list pre-completion, a sales agent will now be based at the show home on Fridays to Sundays throughout October, by appointment, to assist buyers as a further 13 plots are released for sale today – seven in the restored school building and six in the new-build section.”

The developer added: “Given pent-up demand for properties in Glasgow’s West End, interest is already high.”

Jennifer Goldie, of Savills, said: “The West End is severely undersupplied, with properties in the area routinely going for well over home report value. That’s why there’s a perfect storm when a new-build development like this, offering the perfect mix of heritage and modern design, hits the market.

“We know the character of a historic building alongside the appeal of contemporary indoor and outdoor living is extremely popular among a range of buyers, while the properties offer the very best luxury and craftsmanship. We anticipate a lot of movement once people are able to come in and see it for themselves.”

Kelvin Properties said it “continues to grow as one of Glasgow’s leading developers”, known for “work in transforming disused sites into thriving residential communities”.

It added that The Old Schoolhouse is the latest project in a portfolio that includes the award-winning conversion of Broomhill Public School into The Atrium and Waverley Park in Shawlands.

Marc Taylor, director at Kelvin Properties, said: “We are passionate about transforming under-utilised brownfield sites and sensitively restoring Glasgow’s historic architecture where possible.

“The Old Schoolhouse exemplifies our approach, blending the rich heritage of this former school with what people expect from modern apartments. While we’ve respected its history, we’ve also focused on the needs of people today – with an emphasis on creating spaces that enable indoor-outdoor living.”

Residents will have access to a rooftop terrace complete with food preparation areas, herb gardens, raised planters, and a children’s play area, which Kelvin Properties said would encourage “community interaction and a connection to nature”.

The developer added: “Sustainability is also central to the development, with features such as EV (electric vehicle) charging stations, bike storage, and landscaped green spaces promoting biodiversity.”
