Police have launched a murder probe following the death of a 36-year-old man and the attempted murder of a 59-year-old man in Hamilton. 
 
A 56-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing, officers said.  
 
Police Scotland said that the investigation was launched after it received a report of two men injured within the Burnbank Centre in the town at around 3.50pm on Monday, 21 October. 
 
A 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance to hospital. 
 
Officers remain in the area have closed sections of Whitehill Road and Purdie Street while the investigation is carried out.

Superintendent Richard Taylor, Motherwell Police Station, said: “We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.  

“We have an increased police presence in the area as we understand this could be a very upsetting and worrying time for the local community. Anyone with concerns is asked to speak to these officers.”
