Caledonian MacBrayne has warned that services could be severely disrupted over the next couple of days because of Storm Ashley.

The ferry operator has already completely cancelled services from Ardrossan to Brodrick, Troon to Brodrick, and Oban to Castlebay among others for Sunday but it has admitted that more are likely too because of the storm.

It could run as far as Monday with disruption likely then too and CalMac have urged anyone who is travelling to plan ahead and make sure to check services before they set off.

In an update, the company said: “With the arrival of Storm Ashley expected on Sunday 20 October, adverse weather conditions are predicted to affect parts of northwest Scotland. At the time of writing, this deep area of low pressure is predicted to bring a spell of strong and disruptive winds throughout Sunday 20 October and into Monday 21 October.
