The first day of the Disaster Emergency Committee’s Middle East Humanitarian Appeal has raised almost £1 million in Scotland.

The impressive figure of £900,000 comes as £8.8 million has been raised in total in the first 24 hours of the appeal and it’s expected to continue to rise.

The appeal was launched to help people who have been affected by the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Lebanon and the West Bank as well as in Israel.

It has also been supported by each of the five major parties in Scotland and received a further £200,000 in support from the Scottish Government.

Huw Owen from the DEC in Scotland said: “As the crisis continues to deepen, we want to say a huge thanks to everyone across Scotland who has already supported the Appeal.
