The finalists in this year’s 20th anniversary Herald Law Awards of Scotland have just been announced, but which firms and individuals will carry off the top prizes on the night?
This year marks the 20th anniversary of The Herald Law Awards of Scotland. For two decades now these prestigious awards have been highlighting outstanding examples of good practice, innovation and professionalism within Scotland’s law establishment.
The awards will take place on Friday, 15 November in The Marriott Hotel in Glasgow and the host for this landmark event will be Rob Rinder, star of ITV’s legal show, Judge Rinder.
The evening will be a glittering celebration of the best people and practices within the sector and, after a lengthy judging process, the judges, who include Colin Anderson of LEAD Scotland, Usman Tariq KC and Rebecca Samaras of the University of Dundee, have just announced the finalists.
In the Law Firm of the Year - Scottish Independents category, sponsored by Idex Consulting, those in the running are Blackadders LLP, Jones Whyte, Livingstone Brown and MBM Commercial, while in the Law Firm of the Year - Wider UK HQ Award, also sponsored by Idex Consulting, those in the frame are Ashurst and Weightmans LLP.
In the Litigation Team of the Year category, sponsored by Stirling Park, the finalists are Aberdein Considine and Company, Dallas McMillan, Gilson Gray LLP, Jackson Boyd Lawyers and Livingstone Brown.
Other categories amongst the 15 awards that will be given out on the night will include High Street Firm of the Year, Criminal Law Firm of the Year and Family and Child Law Firm of the Year.
In the running for the Solicitor of the Year title, sponsored by The Law Society of Scotland are Elaine Elder of Aberdein Considine and Company; Jaclyn Russell, Stronachs LLP; Paman Singh, Weightmans LLP and Stuart Munro of Livingstone Brown while on the shortlist for the Up and Coming Award are Alexander Heeps, McGlashan MacKay Solicitors; Alison Howells, Lisa Rae & Co; Beth Buchanan-Webster, Blackadders LLP; Dean Gallacher, Kee Solicitors and Priya Cunningham of rradar.
Other categories include Debt Recovery Team of the Year, sponsored by Stirling Park, Employment & Pensions Team of the Year, the Innovation Award, sponsored by The Law Society of Scotland, and a CSR Award.
Formalwear partner for the event is Suited & Booted while Ronnie Murison, Director of Sheriff Officer Services at Stirling Park, said this week: “We applaud the firms and individuals that have been shortlisted across all categories, especially for those nominated under Litigation and Debt Recovery Firms of the Year, whom we are aligned to in providing sheriff officer services.”
The event will shine a light on all aspects of the legal sector, and in the running for the Pro-Bono Award are Govan Law Centre, Lege Expertia, The Aberdeen Law Project and the University of Strathclyde Law Clinic.
On the evening itself, the winners will be announced for the Outstanding Contribution Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be handed out to someone whose lengthy dedication to the Law has made a significant impact on the profession.
The event promises to be an evening of celebration and tickets are still available. For details of these visit https://newsquestscotlandevents.com/events/lawawards/

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
