It was announced in August that MV Hebridean Isles is due to be retired, with the vessel approaching 40 years of service.

The ship is planned to exit service in November of this year, and made its final sailing to Islay in September.

Two new ferries under construction by Ferguson Marine are due to carry passengers to and from Arran when they enter service.

MV Glen Sannox and MV Glen Rosa have both been severely delayed, though Glen Sannox has now completed sea trials.

The ship, which was due to be delivered in 2018 but it and its sister ship are both over budget and late.

A further delay has been announced following the sea trials, which were delayed due to an electrical blackout.

Ferguson Marine's interim CEO John Pettigrew said in a letter to MSPs: "We are pleased to report that the trials were an overall success.

“Additionally, we have fully resolved the setup of the fire and gas detection system. Two successful LNG (liquified natural gas) bunkerings were also carried out, and the LNG tank level alarms were tested and approved on Saturday.

“Although further work is ongoing, we will provide the committee with a definitive handover date as soon as it is confirmed.”
