The Samhuinn Fire Festival is to return Edinburgh later this month on Halloween night.

Community arts performance charity The Beltane Fire Society will host the annual event - a staple of the Halloween events calendar - at Holyrood Park.

The charity has promised an immersive festival with ‘magnificent’ fire-play and acrobatics, as well as a cavalcade of other-world creatures to celebrate the ‘epic battle’ between summer and winter.

Tickets for the event can be bought online and cost £8 for adults and £6 for under 18s, with gates opening at 6.45pm and ending 10pm.

Jenny Bloom, Chair of Beltane Fire Society, said: “On October 31st hundreds of volunteers and thousands of witnesses will gather to celebrate Samhuinn, under the watchful eye of the new moon and in the atmospheric surroundings of Holyrood Park.

“This year’s reimagining of the battle between Summer and Winter is embodied in two Warrior Queens, drawn from Norse and Celtic mythology. As they move through the Festival they meet acrobats, musicians, fire-wielders, and more - building their forces for the explosive moments when they meet and challenge each other.

Those who meet her are inspired to reflect on their journeys, experiences and choices, while her very presence pulls each thread of the story into its rightful place.

“Join us for an evening like no other as we usher in the new season and witness the passing of Summer, with drums, dancing, acrobatics, ritual, and lots and lots of lovely fire!”

Samhuinn brings a host of performers with fire-play, drumming and wild costumes to the park for the transition from summer into winter.

It has been held in Edinburgh since 1995, with its summer counterpart, Beltane, taking place on Calton Hill on the last day of April each year.

It will also have street theatre, costume-making, folklore, music and immersive performances.
