A Glasgow-based company which is one of the oldest property preservation and repair contractors in the UK has enjoyed success in prestigious industry awards.

Richardson & Starling, which noted it had been delivering property care since 1935 and specialises in treatment of dry and wet rot, woodworm and penetrating and rising damp, was joint winner of the sustainability category at the Property Care Association awards.

The company, which has branches across Scotland and the north of England, was also highly commended in the training and staff development, and outstanding customer service categories.

The Property Care Association, the representative organisation for the UK’s building protection industry which staged the awards, praised Richardson & Starling for its "dedication, skill and professionalism".

Richardson & Starling managing director Graham Bruce said: “Our achievements at the recent property care awards recognise the steps we have taken to become sustainable within an ever-changing landscape.

“The hard work and commitment from our people have been rewarded by two further highly commended awards for staff training and development and our approach to customer satisfaction.”

Richardson & Starling has 55 staff and 100 operatives.

Judges for the sustainability award, which was sponsored by Restoration UK, said: “Richardson & Starling demonstrated a variety of measures undertaken to become more ecologically, socially and commercially responsible, including waste compaction, lighting, windows and almost a 50% reduction in carbon.”

Sarah Garry, who is chief executive of the Property Care Association and hosted the event, said: “The awards showcase the best of the best in the sector and celebrate the work of both new and long-established members as well as shining a spotlight on the rising stars of the industry.
