Donald Trump’s plan to open a new golf course in Aberdeenshire has been savaged by the Scottish Greens.

Maggie Chapman, MSP for the North East region, has slammed the scheme, calling it a “"vanity project” and saying it’s the “last thing” the area needs.

The Greens believe the golf course will be detrimental to the local environment – and also went on the attack again Trump himself, calling the former President a “racist climate change-denier" with a long history of "lies and dodgy business dealings.”

Trump has said that the course will be the most environmentally-friendly and sustainable courses ever built and will form, with the existing links course, "the greatest 36 holes in golf".

The new links golf course in Scotland will open next summer.

Mr Trump and his son Eric broke ground last spring at the site, which is designed to accompany the existing world-ranked championship links at Trump International near Balmedie, north of Aberdeen.

The new 18-hole links course at Trump Scotland in Aberdeenshire has been designed to complement the acclaimed existing championship links course, which was opened by Donald Trump and Colin Montgomerie in 2012.
