A black cab has hit pedestrians outside of Glasgow Central station.

Emergency services are in attendance after witnesses said a taxi struck pedestrians outside of the station.

Emergency services attended and two women, aged 60 and 61, and the male driver of the taxi, aged 62, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. A 61-year-old woman was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and one woman aged, 50 was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Gordon Street has been closed at Union Street while Renfield Street has been closed at St Vincent Street.

An eyewitness said: "Huge emergency services response. It looks like a taxi mounted the pavement right outside the Tesco express. Multiple people injured."

Another told the Glasgow Times: "It is awful, just chaos.

"We're on our way to Silverburn and heard a taxi hit some people. The tents went up really quickly."

Big Issue seller Geoffrey Hing told our sister title: "All of a sudden the taxi came flying round the corner and mounted the pavement. People got hit. It was terrible.

"I've only seen something like that on the telly, not in real life. Not in all my time working in Glasgow."

Images from the scene show multiple emergency vehicles in attendance, with the area cordoned off and screens and tents erected.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Emergency services are currently in attendance at Union Street at its junction with Gordon Street following a road crash.

"Gordon Street at Union Street is closed as is Renfield Street at St Vincent Street.

"Motorists and members of the public are asked to avoid the area."

Sergeant Christopher Hoggans from Road Policing said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact us with any information they may have. I would also ask anyone with recording equipment to check the footage as it could assist us in our ongoing investigation.”
