Edinburgh Irish bar and live music venue Dropkick Murphys was able to maintain a sense of humour as some other night-time venues at the city’s bustling Cowgate were hit last night by a power cut at one of their busiest times of the week.

The power cut hit at a time when hundreds of students and others were out in the Cowgate area, throwing many people’s plans into disarray.

Implying the use of a generator to keep the show on the road, Dropkick Murphys posted on Instagram: “Supposedly there is a power cut? We are still sucking diesel till 3am with live music #edinburgh #powercut #cowgate.”

Scottish Power Energy Networks’ website confirmed there was a power cut on Friday night affecting the EH1 postcode, which includes Cowgate, as well as some other postcodes. It confirmed that power was restored later on Friday night.
