A person has been killed this morning after being struck by a train near Edinburgh.

Trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow were cancelled this morning after emergency services attended the scene near Edinburgh Park.

ScotRail said services to and from Haymarket would be delayed or revised, and now multiple replacement transport links have been put in place.

It happened shortly before 10am, and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The effected services are Glasgow Queen St, Inverness, Dunblane, and Helensburgh Central.

For commuters in Edinburgh, the local Tram service is now accepting ScotRail tickets between Edinburgh Park Station and St Andrew Square.

Ticket acceptance is also in place with Scottish Citylink for Scotrail ticket holders between Edinburgh and Glasgow in both directions.

A Herald reporter who was on the 9:15 service from Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh said that the train was stopped outside the capital.

The driver then told passengers that someone had been struck at Edinburgh Park, and that they would be in the one spot for a “considerable” amount of time.

However, the train shortly altered its course and passengers were informed that it would return to Glasgow Queen Street.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just before 10am today (3 October) at Edinburgh Park Railway Station.

"Officers and paramedics attended and sadly a person was pronounced deceased. The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
