Drivers faced major delays on the M8 this evening due to an accident.

Traffic Scotland alerted road users to queues and warned them to take care following a single-vehicle collision on the M8 eastbound at Junction 5 (Shotts) just after 4pm.

Traffic was held so that clear-up of the carriageway could take place, resulting in delays of around 1hr 15 mins for drivers heading eastbound, before Traffic Scotland then warned of delays of approximately 1hr 40 minutes.

Some drivers took to social media to express their frustration at the delays, with one noting that they had "not moved a millimetre".

The congestion then cleared around 7:20pm.
