A  guest house with “outstanding” views is being marketed for sale.

The property overlooking a famous Scottish bay has been owned by the same family for two decades.

Smith and Clough Business Associates said the C-listed property in Oban has 16 letting rooms, a dining room, and a sitting room.

“Kilchrenan Guest House has been in the same family since 2005 and during this time has established itself as one of the finest guest houses in Oban and surrounding areas, benefitting from an excellent local reputation and strong repeat business,” the agent said.

“Run to suit our clients’ requirements the sale of this property offers an exceptional opportunity to grow on what is already an established business.

The agent added: “At present our clients only operate on a six month basis, which gives great potential for a new buyer as Oban without a doubt offers 12 month trading.

“Due to the location, size and layout, this property could be developed into a family run hotel, subject to licensing planning and change of use etc.

“The Corran Esplanade offers many hotels and guest houses and the current owners would not see this as being a problem for a new owner to do.”

The agent also said: “Oban is very busy throughout the year, especially during the main summer months and being located on the Corran Esplanade, Kilchrenan Guest House is very well placed to take full advantage of the tourists and visitors that flock to the area year after year.”

There is also a detached four-bedroom owner’s house. Offers over £1.5 million are invited for the freehold.

Brewer of only Scottish lager in premium top 10 says 'buy homegrown'

The founder of a Scottish brewery has called on beer drinkers to “buy homegrown”, citing research showing its product was the “only Scottish-brewed” one to figure in the nation’s premium lager top ten for the off-trade.

Dougal Sharp, who founded Innis & Gunn in 2003 and has worked in the industry since 1987, highlighted his belief that much of the allure of some of the "continental lagers" within the rest of the list can be attributed to marketing.

Innis & Gunn noted its premium later “is now ranked as the number-six premium lager brand in the off trade in the latest Nielsen Data, making it the only homegrown premium lager in Scotland’s top 10”.

First turbines of wind farm that will power almost 170,00 homes installed

The first turbines of a windfarm which will generate enough electricity to power almost 170,000 homes in southern Scotland have been installed.

Five towering green energy generators have now been built at North Kyle, near New Cumnock in East Ayrshire as part of the North Kyle development.

When fully operational in October next year the 49 wind turbines will generate enough green energy to power the equivalent of 168,000 homes each year. The wind farm is part of a development to regenerate one of Scotland’s largest surface coal mining sites, which formerly occupied the site.
