A man has died after being hit by a van near Irvine.
Police Scotland have issued a plea for information after the fatal accident on the A78 early on Friday morning.
Officers said the 37-year-old was hit by a Peugeot Partner van near to Eglinton interchange.
Emergency services were sent to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead before he could be taken to hospital.
The 49-year-old driver of the van was uninjured.
Sergeant Brian Simpson from the road policing unit at Irvine said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash or who has any information that may assist our enquiry to contact us. "

He added: “I would also ask anyone who was driving on the A78 around the time to review their footage and please contact us if it holds anything relevant.
“Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting reference number 0029 of 20 September, 2024.”
