A road in Paisley has been shut after two men were struck by a car early on Wednesday morning.

Hawkhead Road in the town was closed from Hurlet Road after the incident which took place around 8.10am this morning, with emergency services on the scene.

Police and ambulance crews were in attendance with police urging drivers to find an alternative route and avoid the area.

The two men, aged 40 and 51, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries while the driver of the car was uninjured.

A statement from Police Scotland said: “Around 8.10am on Wednesday, 18 September, officers were called to Hawkhead Road in Paisley after two men were struck by a car.

“Emergency services attended and the two men, aged 40 and 51, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries.

“The driver of the car was uninjured. The road is currently closed between Accord Avenue and Portland Road whilst enquiries are carried out.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service added: “We received a call today at 0809 hours to attend an incident on Hawkhead Road in Paisley. We dispatched three ambulances, our special operations team, a critical care paramedic our trauma team and a paramedic response unit to the scene.

"We transported two patients to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and treated a third patient at the scene.”
