A landmark property built for Glasgow Corporation Electricity as one of two large electricity generating stations in1900 is to go under the hammer.

The Grade B listed building is currently unoccupied and is being described as a “prime development opportunity”.

The property at 197 Pollokshaws Road was converted from its original use to a printing works in 1937.

Commercial property auctioneer Acuitus, which is conducting the sale, said: “Today, it is a Grade B listed building and forms a part of the St Andrew’s Works complex, and has recently been re-roofed.

“The 46,354 sq ft property comprises of front and rear warehouse bays with mezzanine areas and substantial car park and yard area, and is currently unoccupied.”

The property at 197 Pollokshaws Road was built as one of two large electricity generating stations for Glasgow Corporation Electricity in 1900, and converted to a printing works in 1937. Today, it is a Grade B listed building and forms a part of the St Andrew’s Works complex, and has recently been re-roofed.

Mhairi Archibald, of Acuitus, said: “This prime development opportunity is excellently connected to Glasgow’s transport infrastructure and benefits from holding consent for assembly and leisure use incorporating ‘class 3 – café’, meaning that the building could be used for flexible event space or other uses”.

The Acuitus auction will take place on September 25 at 1pm and will be broadcast via livestream on the Acuitus website with bidding online, by telephone and by proxy.
