Meccano Society of Scotland Annual Meeting

Relive your childhood and head along to see the single largest display of Meccano in Scotland at Summerlee Museum. The exhibits on show use both modern and vintage Meccano to demonstrate the creative and engineering abilities of the people that pieced them together. There will also be members of the Meccano Society of Scotland on hand to talk about their pieces.

Cunning Folk

This new exhibition of paintings from Bristol based artist Adam Forsythe transcends the boundaries of reality. He draws inspiration from age-old folktales, modern myths and the practices of cunning folk to create his own unique folklore. In addition to his unique painting process, Forsythe incorporates AI tools into his practice enabling him to generate new perspectives and imagine artificial folklore.

Feeling Blue

14-15 September. Entry free.Glasgow Botanic Gardens, 730 Great Western Road, Glasgow, G12 0UE. 

This exhibition of natural dyes and sustainable fibres has been curated by textile artist and natural dyer Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw. Across two full days some glorious pieces of Indigo dyed fabric are exhibited together with some items lent by dyers. There’s also volunteers on hand to demonstrate some slow textile techniques.

Nicola Atkinson and Pablo Llopis have created a title and graphic for this exhibition inspired by this idiom people use in Glasgow when someone wants to politely finish a conversation or exit a building. For this exhibition, viewers are invited to see how a former office building in the centre of Glasgow has been transformed into a vibrant artists’ studio.

Smith/Stewart - Present Tense

A new exhibition from artists and long time collaborators Stephanie Smith and Eddie Stewart explores interdependence and the relationships we have with one another. The pair produce sculptural installations with a primary emphasis on the body and the implication for the viewer. Alongside the new body of work, the artists are also presenting material in relation to their process of making which is never usually shown.

A Society Soiree: Georgian Style

An Artist’s Life - From Dunfermline to the Royal Court

Dunfermline-born artist, illustrator, poet, painter to Queen Victoria and a contemporary of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Joseph Noel Paton was a towering figure in the Victorian art world. Discover important works taken from various major museums and galleries as well as paintings, engravings and drawings. There’s also paintings, sketches and personal items loaned by the artist’s family, many of which are on public display for the first time.

This thought-provoking display charts the history and influence of the Theravada Buddhist tradition across the world, including its role in Scotland today. This display includes a Buddha on loan from The Dhammapadipa Temple in Edinburgh that was made in Thailand back in 2013 before being gifted to the Temple.

Comfort Me is a joint exhibition by Hazel Frost and Selma Augestad who, through clay, textile and drawing, reflect expressions of emotions that test the conditionality of love.

A soft place to land

In this exhibition of textile sculptures, wall quilts and hangings inspired by natural elements where most of the materials used are recycled or repurposed, artists have been challenged to increase the size of their work. Artist Bel Pye focuses on the experience of making rather than the finished product and hopes viewers will enjoy exploring the objects as much as they have enjoyed making them.
