The Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art has shut until tomorrow after a member of the public fell from a balcony.

The incident happened this afternoon and Police Scotland moved quickly to assure people in the area that there was no wider threat to the public after a large emergency presence in the area.

GOMA confirmed they would remain closed until tomorrow morning at 10am while emergency services dealt with the incident.

They posted on social media to say: “The Gallery of Modern Art has closed early today after a member of the public fell from a balcony. Emergency services are in attendance. The building will reopen as normal tomorrow, Thursday 12 September at 10am.”

A statement from Police Scotland said: “We would like to reassure the public following a large emergency presence in Royal Exchange Square. This is related to a report a man has fallen within one of the buildings. There is no wider threat to the public.”

The spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 12:23 to attend an incident on Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow. We dispatched one ambulance, one paramedic response unit (PRU), and one trauma team to the scene.”
