A new solo exhibition by Beth Robertson Fiddes at The Strathearn Gallery provides a powerful tribute to Scotland's natural environment.

Beth, one of Scotland’s most gifted and unique contemporary landscape artists, will unveil ‘Echoes of the North’, a stunning collection of new works at the Strathearn Gallery in Crieff on the 14th September.

In the world of noted Scottish contemporary landscape artists over the past years, few who have seen Beth Robertson Fiddes’ work would argue against her deserving a place up there amongst the best.

Bridging between realism and abstract painting, her evocative paintings capture the wild beauty of the Scottish wilderness with a skill and talent few possess.  Her ability to paint and capture the movement of water is simply breathtaking and has deservedly garnered critical acclaim.

Beth eschews the more traditional bright and colourful vistas to create compositions unique to her – broader panoramas and mountains are combined with focussed pieces on specific elements and detail within the wild terrains she is so drawn to.

This approach allows Beth to fully accentuate details within her subject matter – a dynamic interplay of colour and texture with layer upon layer of paint is used to convey eroded rocks, crashing frenzied waves and sea foam, or polished stones serenely resting at the bottom of crystal clear rockpools.

Painting water is notoriously difficult yet Beth’s exceptional talent and over 20 years of professional practice honing her craft means she has the ability to translate movement, transparency and reflection flawlessly.

In this new Solo Exhibition of landscapes and seascapes, Beth revisits some of her favourite locations from the Highlands and beyond, looking at them with a fresh and critical eye and adding years of painting experience.

The result is a collection of work offering a powerful tribute to the enduring spirit of Scotland’s natural environment.

‘Echoes of the North’ opens at 10am on Saturday 14th September at the Strathearn Gallery, Crieff and runs until 13th October.  Beth will be in the gallery on the opening day, 14th September to talk about her work.  All welcome
