ScotRail has issued travel advice to the Tartan Army ahead of Scotland’s first match since Euro 2024.
Steve Clarke’s side are looking to dust off a disappointing summer tournament when they host Poland on Thursday night in the first match of the UEFA Nation’s League.
With kick-off at 19:45 on Thursday 5 September, the area is expected to be busier than normal.
ScotRail has announced that extra services will run between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida – the closest station to Hampden Park – to assist supporters travelling to and from the match.
The rail operator is still running a temporary timetable, as they struggle with a shortage of drivers taking up their contractual right to not work overtime or rest days.
Fans should expect longer queuing times and allow extra time to travel, according to ScotRail bosses.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said: “We’re looking forward to helping fans travel by train to watch the men’s national team play Poland at Hampden Park on Thursday night.
“We’re adding more train services between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida to help supporters travel to and from the match, and we’ll have additional staff on hand to help.
“Our advice to customers is to leave extra time for travel as trains are likely to be busier than normal. Buying tickets in advance through our mTickets system will reduce your queuing time.
“Regular commuters who travel home from Glasgow on the line via Mount Florida should be aware that services will be much busier than normal with fans heading to the match.”
Customers are also reminded that Mount Florida station can only be accessed from Cathkinview Road, and onto Bolton Drive via Clincart Road after the match.
Extra staff will also be on hand, and the train operator is also reminding everyone that the carrying and consumption of alcohol is prohibited on ScotRail trains and in ScotRail stations.

For people driving to the match on Thursday, traffic times should be better than previous games after the completion of works on Shields Road last month.
The road which connects the southside with central Glasgow had been closed since August 2023 causing drivers going to Hampden on matchdays to access the southside from alternative routes.
After its £12.6m upgrade, it re-opened to traffic last week, and will now allow for easier access to motorists heading to Hampden.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
