A fish and chip shop at a prime site in an upmarket city locale has been sold.

The previous operator, who is to concentrate on a separate restaurant offering nearby, took over the premises seven years ago but the shop occupied the location for over 40 years before that.

David Higgins, of Cornerstone Business Agents, said: "Franco's Fish and Chips is a bit of an institution for those living in and around the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh and has served the locals here for almost 50 years, the last seven of which under the ownership of Pino Vita and his family who have sold the business to concentrate on his wonderful Italian Restaurant, Pepe Nero which is located just along the road."

Mr Higgins also said: "We went live with this one on June 13 and managed to complete within 12 weeks which is great going, especially at this time of year, a great team effort by all involved."

Cornerstone Business Agents said earlier: "Franco’s Fish and Chip Shop trades from a prominent location on Comely Bank Road which becomes Raeburn Place and is the main thoroughfare running through the highly desirable Edinburgh suburb of Stockbridge.

"The area is very popular with a wide and varied selection of restaurants, bars, cafes and quality retail businesses situated along the main street and the roads leading off."

The value of the deal was not disclosed but the leasehold was marketed at a guide price of £65,000, with an annual rent of £57,500.
