Scottish technology services company Waracle has appointed a new chief executive to further accelerate growth following recent acquisitions and new contract wins.

David Tuck will join the Dundee-headquartered business in September from digital transformation company Kin + Carta. He will succeed Chris Martin, who has led the business since 2014 and will remain with the company as a significant shareholder.

Waracle specialises in mobile apps and digital products and has a client base that includes Lloyds Banking Group, Royal London, Roche and Imperial College London. The company is backed by UK investment group BGF.

Mr Tuck's appointment follows the acquisition in June of Glasgow's Screenmedia, taking Waracle's employee headcount to more than 200. The company also recently signed a new multi-million pound three-year contract with ScottishPower subsidiary SP Energy Networks.

“I am hugely excited about the journey with Waracle, which is a company I have followed for a long time," Mr Tuck said. "There is a buoyant tech sector in Scotland and we know that demand for high-quality tech services will continue to grow.

“Waracle has grown to a business with over 200 employees and a strong client base across the UK and Europe. Now there is an opportunity to accelerate that growth and invest in new capabilities, particularly data and AI, and use that to bring greater value to clients.”

He added: “The next chapter is exciting for everyone here. There is an opportunity to substantially increase the size and impact of the business over the next two to three years.”

Mr Tuck has worked in technology services for 25 years and is said to be experienced in scale-up and business integration. He held senior positions at Thoughtworks, Scott Logic, and The App Business before Kin + Carta.

Mr Martin said the appointment demonstrates the ambition for Waracle to continue its growth to the next level.

“His experience in scale-up and his track record in building teams who do great work, and enjoy themselves, makes him perfect for this role," he said. "He is pragmatic, hard-working, ambitious and likeable.”

Waracle was founded by Michael Romilly, David Romilly and Mike Wharton as a spin-out from Abertay University in Dundee in 2008. It has offices in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee.
