Scotland’s professional basketball team has partnered with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, continuing its support for the country’s largest children’s hospital.
Caledonia Gladiators, who are set to tip off their second season at their new Playsport arena in East Kilbride in September, are launching “Shooting for the Stars”, a campaign aiming to raise £25,000 for the charity over the next 12 months.
The partnership will involve various fundraising initiatives in a bid to raise funds for children’s screenings at the hospital’s MediCinema.
The cinema at Glasgow Children’s Hospital screens two of the latest films each week and is adorned with a red carpet and film themed decoration for showings, giving children and their families some well-deserved escapism.
To kick off the ‘Shooting for the Stars’ campaign, men’s player Fraser Malcom and women’s captain, Erin McGarrahan, visited the cinema to spend time with patients at a recent screening.
Tony McDaid, CEO of Caledonia Gladiators said: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity to raise money for such a well-loved facility for its patients. Just like sport, films bring so much joy and offer children the chance to switch off for an hour or two.

“We’re long-term supporters of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and its fantastic work in supporting its young patients. Our players paid surprise visits to the children’s hospital at Christmas time and we’re looking forward to more events such as this as we work with the charity on an ongoing basis through this important partnership.”
