A Scottish teenager has died after falling from a hotel balcony in Ibiza.

Emma Ramsay, 19, died after falling from a sixth floor balcony at the Vibra District Hotel in San Antonio in the early hours of Tuesday, according to reports in Spain.

Ms Ramsay, who was from Hamilton, is believed to have been studying law at the University of Strathclyde.

Central Scotland MSP Monica Lennon took to social media to pay tribute to the teenager.

The MSP wrote: "My heart goes out to the family and friends of Emma Ramsay. The news of Emma’s tragic death has shocked the entire community. Everyone is heartbroken and devastated.

"The Foreign Office is providing assistance to the family, who need privacy and the love of the entire community.

"Emma clearly made a huge impact on all who knew her, including her school community where she served as Head Girl. Please hug your loved ones closer tonight and keep Emma and her devastated family and friends in your thoughts."

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”
