A famous Scottish hotel that has been owned by the same family since it opened in 1860 has been brought to market.
The hotel with a "worldwide reputation" is regarded as "one of the finest and best-established hotels in Scotland", the agent said.
The George Hotel, Inveraray, is described as being full of period charm and character, with 24 bespoke rooms, a lounge and cocktail bar, public bar, and restaurant and conservatory dining.
The property has an extensive multi-function garden bar with outside seating, an "exceptional location with panoramic views of Loch Fyne", a converted four-bedroom cottage and separate staff accommodation blocks.
Graeme Smith, of Smith and Clough Business Associates, who is handling the sale alongside Brian Sheldon at Christie & Co, said: "It is an absolute pleasure to bring the George Hotel Inveraray to the market, for the very first time in its long history.
"Regarded as one of the finest and best-established hotels in Scotland, with a worldwide reputation, it has been owned and carefully run by the Clark family since 1860.

Kris Clark, owner of The George, said: "The George Hotel has been part of the family since 1860, six generations committed to providing an authentic and quality product in hospitality and weave a little more magic into the beautiful historic town of Inveraray.
"The family have decided that the time is right to hand on the baton to a new generation to continue the legacy of one of the most iconic hotels in Scotland."
Mr Sheldon, of Christie & Co, said: "We are delighted to be working alongside Smith and Clough on this first-class assignment. The George Hotel is an established family business located within the Royal Burgh of Inveraray, the ancestral seat of the Duke of Argyll, which is available to purchase for the first time since 1860."
The agents said offers of around £3.9 million are invited.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
