A body has been recovered from a canal in a Scottish town.

Police were called to the Union Canal by Strawberry Bank in Linlithgow, West Lothian on around 9.30am on Tuesday morning. 

Officers remained at the scene throughout the day amid ongoing enquiries.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the force confirmed that the body belonged to a 69-year-old man. 

His death is not being treated as suspicious and his next of kin have been informed. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.30am on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, police were called to the Strawberry Bank area of Linlithgow following the discovery of a body of a 69-year-old man within the water.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious. Next of kin have been informed and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
