THE American band Dr Hook, whose chart hits included Sylvia’s Mother, The Cover of Rolling Stone, A Little Bit More, and When You’re in Love With a Beautiful Woman, sold out two nights at the Glasgow Apollo in October 1981. To mark their achievement, Evening Times reporter Helen Martin presented them with two commemorative Apollo statuettes, prior to their opening show.

It was the venue’s first sell-out for six months.

Pictured here on the Apollo stage is Ray Sawyer, perhaps the band’s most flamboyant member. He died in December 2018, aged 81.
