A watchdog spent more than £100,000 on an investigation into how a how a hotel knifeman who stabbed six people was shot dead by police, it has been revealed.

The Scottish Sun reports that 108,191.16 was billed for investigating the death of Badreddin Abadlla Adam Bosh who attacked two teenagers and four men, including police officer David Whyte on June 26, 2020 in Glasgow.

Figures which were released under freedom of information show £94,246 was spent on staffing by the Police Investigation and Review Commissioner, which included £8,437 on travel and £355.11 expenses. 

Officials said the bill included “multiple journeys” but no trips abroad.

Twenty-eight-year-old Badreddin, of Sudan, was killed in June last year after he killed six people including PC David Whyte, 44, at the city centre Park Inn Hotel where he was living.

A PIRC probe is routine when police firearms are deployed. A spokesperson said a report has been submitted to prosecutors.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said: “The PIRC report is under consideration.

“The family will be informed of any significant developments.”
