A lorry has gone up in flames on a motorway in Glasgow.

The HGV vehicle is on fire at the beginning of the M74 southbound at Kinning Park.

The incident began at around 12.40pm on Thursday afternoon and police are currently on route.

Traffic Scotland has advised drivers to use an alternative route for now.

 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.40pm on Thursday, October 7, police were called to assist SFRS following a report of a lorry fire on the M8 eastbound near J23.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and traffic management is ongoing."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
