The scales of justice have tilted in favour of our best-loved invertebrates. UK ministers are soon to ban the practice of boiling alive lobsters, crabs and squids for our culinary edification. The Scottish Government is considering similar proposals.

Why can’t we be satisfied with simply eviscerating and devouring these enchanting creatures without torturing them beforehand?

As humanity prepares gingerly to approach post-Covid normality everyone’s talking about how the pandemic has compelled us to re-examine our relationships with each other. I think it’s about time too we re-evaluated our relationships with animals.
