Whilst a knighthood is potentially on the cards, it looks like Captain Tom Moore has already received the ultimate honour - in a wrestling title belt.

The 99-year-old veteran, who has raised millions for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden, was gifted the unique honour by Scottish WWE champion Drew McIntyre.

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) produced the championship belt to mark Captain Moore's 100th birthday on Thursday.

The belt, which has previously been worn by legends including Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and The Rock, has now been upgraded.

Two of the belt’s side panels are now inscribed with: Happy Birthday Captain Tom Moore with 100 and an NHS logo in the centre.

Ayr-born McIntyre, who is the first British wrestler to win the title, announced the gift on Twitter on Tuesday.

He wrote: "As WWE Champion it is my honour, on behalf of WWE, to celebrate the 100th birthday and extraordinary achievements of Captain Tom Moore with a personalised WWE title.

"Happy birthday sir, and thank you."

Since his fundraiser ended, Captain Moore has continued his efforts to raise money for the NHS.

His rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” with Michael Ball and the NHS Voices of Care Choir helped earn him the distinction as the oldest artist to reach the top spot of BBC Radio 1's The Official Chart.

A spokesperson for WWE said: "The WWE Universe joins McIntyre in wishing Captain Tom a wonderful 100th birthday and offers appreciation for continuing to inspire us all."
