One person has been taken to hospital following a fire in Edinburgh.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the premises, on North Bridge, at 5.31pm and six appliances were dispatched to the scene.

Reports suggest the fire broke out in a branch of Pret A Manger.

One person was taken to hospital but their condition remains unknown.

The adjacent Scotsman Hotel was also evacuated due to the level of smoke coming from the cafe.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "We were alerted at 5.31pm on Sunday 24 November to reports of a fire within a business premises on North Bridge, Edinburgh.

"Operations control mobilised six appliances to the scene. Crews extinguished the fire within a ground floor building.

"One casualty was transferred into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

"An adjacent hotel was evacuated due to smoke affecting the building."

Crews remained on scene for several hours following the incident but left the scene before 10pm.
