Two schoolboys who vanished on their way to school in the Midlothian area have been traced safe and well, police have confirmed. 

An urgent appeal was launched this morning to help trace Michael, nine, and six-year-old James O'Brien, known as Jamie.

They were dropped off at school in Carnethie Street, Rosewell at around 8am on Thursday morning (November 21), but failed to attend class.

A police spokesperson said: "We are pleased to report Michael and Jamie O'Brien, missing from Rosewell this morning, have been traced safe and well. Thank you to everyone who shared our information."
