George Square is set to become the epicentre of European football during the summer months as the iconic heart of Glasgow is transformed into a ‘football village’.
Free-to-enter fan zones will be set up in George Square and in the nearby Merchant City, where fans and families can take in the action at during UEFA Euro 2020.

But those missing out on tickets for the tournament will also be able to catch every game in one of the zones, where live music and entertainment, local food and drink and family-friendly activities will also be on offer.
Billy Garrett, director of sport and events at Glasgow Life, said: "We are delighted that the international spotlight will shine once again on Glasgow next year when the city hosts four UEFA Euro 2020 football matches. The two Fan Zones in George Square and Merchant City will be the ideal place for everyone to join in the festivities.”

A miniature football pitch will be the centrepiece of the square, with a host of footballing activity, including events for youngsters and ‘walking football’ to appeal to all ages.
Over 600 volunteers will help deliver the event alongside Uefa’s partners.
The village opens on Friday, June 12, in time for the opening match at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Hampden will host matches from Group D on June 15, 19 and 23, followed by a round of 16 match on June 30.

Former European champions Italy and Spain have already qualified for the tournament, alongside World Cup quarter-finalists Russia.
Scotland’s last hope of qualifying will come in the form of the Uefa Nations League play-offs, though it is currently unclear who Steve Clarke’s men will face.
The village will remain open until the day after the final, set to be played at Wembley on Sunday, June 12.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
