A GROUP of care-experienced young people from across Scotland had their exam results hand delivered by Nicola Sturgeon.
While tens of thousands of Scottish youngsters received their grades via text or in the post, the First Minister presented a group of 20 students with their awards as a special celebration event in Glasgow yesterday.
The event, organised by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and in conjunction with Who Cares? Scotland and MCR Pathways, saw the pupils gather with their family and friends for the special presentation.

Ms Sturgeon said: “All young people deserve to have their successes celebrated.
“However, those from care-experienced backgrounds face additional obstacles meaning that their learning can be more challenging.
“It is such a pleasure to be in the company of such inspiring young people on this special day and each and every one of them should be proud of their achievements.”
Among the candidates to receive their results from the First Minister was Gabrielle Docherty, a student from Clydebank College.
After receiving her Scottish Qualifications Certificate from the First Minister, Gabrielle said: “I was really nervous about my results, but I’m really pleased about what I’ve achieved.
“It’s the first time that I’ve felt celebrated, and that my achievements have been recognised.”
SQA Chief Executive Fiona Robertson said she felt “inspired” by the young people attending the event.
David Middleton, chair of the exam body, said: “As proud corporate parents, SQA is committed to supporting and recognising the ambitions and successes of all young people, including those with care experience.
“The young people we’ve heard from today put considerable effort into their studies, and that determination to succeed and not let their background hold them back, will serve them well in the next stage of their learning journey.
“On behalf of the SQA, I’d like to congratulate each of them.”
Kevin Browne-MacLeod, director of Care Experienced Membership at Who Cares? Scotland, said described the students’ achievements as “phenomenal”.
He added: “This celebration marks a special day where young people are recognised for their hard work, skills and talent.
“I congratulate all the young people across the country who have received their results today.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
