A popular Dumfries and Galloway music festival has sparked outrage after announcing that the event is moving 60 miles away to Glasgow

Electric Fields organisers revealed today that this year's festival will take place at west end venue SWG3, an 80-minute drive from its original location at Drumlanrig Castle, Thornhill.

Festival bosses cited the "rising costs of producing outdoor camping festivals", as well as problems with transport on their previous site.

They are reportedly working to bring on board accommodation partners and will put on buses from Dumfries and Galloway to the new urban venue.

Organiser Nick Roberts told Glasgow Live: "I think fundamentally if Electric Fields was to be anywhere else other than Dumfries and Galloway then it has to be Finnieston."

He added: "SWG3 is the best possible place for us to move to."

But many ticketholders were left angered by the decision.

One wrote on social media: "Got email 95 pounds against the 120 original cost doesn’t seem like a deal that benefits us how do I obtain a full refund as travelling everyday to Glasgow is not on the whole part is the camping, been to everyone this is the end of a great wee festival sorry but this is a poor poor way to end it !!"

Another added: "The more I think about this. The more annoyed I'm getting. You ask us to take a leap of faith and book tickets for your festival without knowing the line up....we bought the tickets based on the idea of an experience including camping in a nice location....then you completely change the deal. This really isn't on."

A statement posted on the festival website reads: "Due to the rising costs of producing outdoor camping festivals and ongoing logistical and transport challenges we have made the difficult decision to move site to an inner city location in Glasgow.

"Electric Fields Festival 2019 will relocate to SWG3 with the event going ahead with the same full lineup (plus a few new additions), on the same dates, with all the usual Electric Fields stages (outdoors and indoors), Our Kids Electric, plus quality street food & drink.

"SWG3 is located in the popular Finnieston area, with excellent transport links from around Glasgow and further afield. The venue capacity is also slightly larger than we normally have so we’ll be able to welcome some more of you to join us.

"We have had 5 amazing years producing the festival there and thank everyone at the castle for their immense support, as well as everyone involved in making those lasting memories in the fields."

Those who have bought tickets for the event have now been contacted regarding their ticket status.

This year's festival is set to host The Vaccines, Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls, as well as Friendly Fires and Metronomy.

Bosses added: "We’ve contacted all ticket holders so please check your inbox for more information, for any queries please contact info@electricfieldsfestival.com

"We look forward to you joining us on the next chapter for Electric Fields as we move to the urban jungle."
