A NEW poll has pointed to a Unionist majority in the next Holyrood parliament.

The Panelbase survey, which was commissioned by the pro-independence blog Wings Over Scotland, suggested the SNP and Greens would no longer control the chamber.

Voting intention for the SNP was 41% in seats and 36% in regions, with the Greens on 3% and 6% respectively, giving a seat projection of 57 and four.

The poll adds to pressure on Nicola Sturgeon to push for a second referendum before the 2021 election, as parliamentary arithmetic may make it impossible for her to do so afterwards.

In 2016, the SNP won 63 MSPs and the Greens six, putting them narrowly over the half-way mark of 65.
