Scotland's only polar bears celebrated their birthday in style by tucking into their two favourite treats -- sardines and hotdogs.

Keepers helped the two white fluffy bears mark the occasion at RZSS Highland Wildlife Park in Kingussie, Speyside.

Walker and Arktos were seen ripping into a large pile of present boxes, which were stuffed with their favourite foods, for a special birthday treat.

The playful pair celebrated at a joint birthday party after Arktos turned ten at the end of last month, and his pal Walker will turn nine on December 7.

The Herald:

Douglas Richardson, Head of Living Collections at RZSS Highland Wildlife Park, said:
“When we first introduced the two boys, a number of external zoo colleagues predicted that the bond would not last once both were mature.

"We are now five years on, both bears are fully adult and bar the odd argument, they are still good pals.

"Celebrating their joint birthday is also a further indicator to those of us that are responsible for their day to day care that we made the correct decision that has enhanced the quality of both bears’ lives.”

RZSS Highland Wildlife Park currently hosts Scotland’s only polar bears -- two males and one female.

Polar bears are the largest living carnivores and will mostly eat seals in the wild, although they will also hunt beluga whales and seabirds.

They are currently on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List as a vulnerable species.
