PUPILS at a Fife secondary school are the first in Scotland to study for formal qualifications – in make-up.

Edinburgh-based beauty academy GlamCandy are running an SQA approved course at Auchmuty High School in Glenrothes – with the first crop of pupils set to gain official SQA National Progression Award qualifications upon completing the course.

Teachers say that the course is not only giving the students a useful skill –but is helping grow their confidence and push them towards gaining other qualifications, boosting their employability.

GlamCandy, which runs make-up artist courses from its base in Edinburgh and at locations across Scotland, is set to expand the courses to schools in Edinburgh and Aberdeen next year.

The Make-up Artistry course is available to fifth and sixth year pupils, with 14 girls currently taking the classes.

The course teaches beauty make-up, bridal make-up and evening make-up and will give those who pass a recognised qualification that could lead to further education opportunities or employment as a trainee make-up artist.
