Hogmanay could be a “braw” day in “bonnie” Scotland as the public unites around a word that best describes the nation.

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay has launched a vote to ask Scots to choose a word that best describes their pride in the country. The final shortlist features: culture, braw, welcome, hame, alive, diverse and bonnie.

Scots can cast their ScotWord vote online and the winner will be unveiled at the end of the capital’s Torchlight Procession on December 30.

Charlie Wood and Ed Bartlam, directors of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, said: “ScotWord is the blazing voice of Scotland’s young people telling the world why they’re proud to live in this extraordinary country.”

Paul Bush of VisitScotland, said: “The ScotWord campaign has provided a wonderful platform for young people to have their voices heard through a far-reaching and ambitious engagement programme.

“The next stage, which throws open the public vote, is a fantastic way to generate further dialogue across generations”.
