A teenage boy has been charged over alleged hare coursing in Midlothian.

The incident is said to have happened at about 4.30pm on Friday when a number of men were seen in fields to the east of Dalkeith with two lurcher-type dogs.

The 13-year-old will be reported to the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration (SCRA) and local officers continue to conduct inquiries.

Sergeant Stuart Aitchison, of Dalkeith police station, said: "We recognise the impact that hare coursing has on rural communities and remain committed to investigating all reports of this.

"Anyone with information about hare coursing or rural crime is urged to speak to a local officer, contact Police Scotland."
