TORY peer Michelle Mone is set to be a star witness in the trial of a former employee accused of a £75,000 fraud.

Adele Mitchell, 43, is alleged to have carried out various frauds while working at Mone’s former lingerie company MJM International between June 2013 and March 2014.

Prosecutors claim Ms Mitchell, who was employed as a financial controller, gained £33,887.51 after telling another MJM employee to make a payment to an account she said was for HMRC but was actually run by her in February 2014.

It is alleged she defrauded the company of £6,058.80 by agreeing to lease a Mercedes Benz E-Class car for her own use, which was paid through MJM accounts, without the firm’s knowledge or permission between June 2013 and March 2014.

She also allegedly told MJM accountants she was due a £5,000 a year wage rise that she was not entitled to and received £4,583.33 by fraud between June 2013 and March 2014. It is further claimed she embezzled £5,000 from the company in December 2013. In total, it is claimed she defrauded MJM International, which is based in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, of £49,529.64.

Ms Mitchell, of Gourock, Inverclyde, is due to stand trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court next month.

Meanwhile Ms Mone yesterday put a message on social media saying she was ready to set up a new business with offices in Mayfair, London, Dubai, the south of France and St Bartholomew in the West Indies.
